24/7 coffee and tea much appreciated and honor system tracking to grab your own drinks aboard and pay for at the end. We were in awe of all the beautiful wooden touches - rare to find in the modern ships of today! Stairs are on the steeper side on the ship, so we made good use of the railings when at sea. The water is warm, but for us who tend to be cold just a little extra layer can make it so much more enjoyable. Also some people had long, thin rash-guard pants which were great protection against the annoying sea lice and jellyfish that we would encounter.

Do I Need To Get Any Vaccinations Or Malaria Tablets Ahead Of Travel?

It is essential to plan ahead as the best time to visit Indonesia will depend on your chosen small boat cruise itinerary and the islands included. Lombok is considered one of Indonesia’s best islands, given its gorgeous beaches, mighty waterfalls and the unique culture of the Sasak people. Visitors to Lombok will hike through the jungle to the spectacular Sindang Gila, a 40-foot tiered waterfall, before visiting the village of Senaru to delve into the Sasak people’s unique blend of ancient Animism and Islam.

Cruising Indonesia and discovering the karst limestone islets and lagoons of Wayag is truly the adventure of a lifetime. In the West Papua region, the island features topography reminiscent of Norwegian mountains, except they’re dressed in tropical fauna instead of ice and snow. Located just south of the equator, sailing Wayag feels like a trip to the edge of the world. Raja Ampat also happens to be in the middle of a major cetacean migration route and aggregation site where various whales and dolphin species have been sighted.

Sulawesi cruises travel across the Flores Sea, stopping along the way to explore the area’s many islands and atolls while watching for manta rays and whale sharks. This region also features sublime, uncrowded dive sites, home to a wealth of rare, endemic marine life and reefs decorated with flourishing soft coral that are considered the best in the world. Komodo National Park spans across three major islands including Rinca, Padar, and the namesake Komodo Island. Along with this, there are numerous remote islands with a total surface area (marina and land) of 1817 square kilometers.

Sulawesi, the Indonesian island east of Kalimantan (Borneo) and west of Raja Ampat, is perhaps the most unknown gem of the country’s many islands. Its shorelines and atolls are freckled with human settlements that rarely see tourism, so this is a land of true adventure travel and modern cultural experiences. Villages here are authentic working/living places for a variety of locals who make their living farming and fishing. This includes the nomadic Bajau people, commonly called the sea gypsies.

Much of Lombok’s beauty, however, is found off the main island and under the waters surrounding the nearby Gili Islands, including beautiful Gili Sulat, site of some of the best snorkelling in the region. The “line” was drawn by naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace in 1859 and runs between Borneo and Sulawesi down to the strait between Bali and Lombok. Traveling around this line is a thrill for naturalists as it’s one of the most distinctive biogeographic areas on Earth. West of the line you will find larger terrestrial mammals (tigers, elephants, orangutans), and east of the line look for marsupials, Australian cockatoos and birds-of-paradise. The Indonesian island of Sulawesi is an interesting exception to the Wallace Line with black macaques, pigs and tarsiers. While West Papua is technically the only territory of Indonesia, the island of New Guinea is often an itinerary stop or embarkation point for many Indonesia cruises. Many Raja Ampat cruises begin their journey in West Papua out of Sorong.

I also feel that the traditional pinisi boats (as there were a few around) just fit right into the landscape, whereas the more yachty or modern boats seemed out of place. Misool was beautiful- loved the jellyfish lake and cave exploration. The snorkeling, beach and view of Wayag was just idyllic and my favorite place of the trip. The oyster farm we visited was neat but the bay we stayed in wasn't the best- filled with plastic and felt less remote and beautiful with the oyster farm surrounding us. Loved getting to know the knowledgeable, like-minded travelers aboard.

Should Investors Still Buy Carnival Cruise Stock Right Now, Even After Shares Doubled? The Motley Fool

carinval cruise stock

For what it's worth, Wall Street believes the good times won't last very long. Analysts see annual revenue gains shrinking going forward, with fiscal 2026 sales rising by just 1.9% compared to the prior year. During that 12-week stretch, the company hit a first-quarter record for sales. Key to this strong momentum is, without a surprise, robust demand from consumers. However, the company is also trying to repay the debt it took on during the pandemic.

Investing in Carnival Cruise Line Stock (CCL)

CCL slipped 0.5% in premarket trading Wednesday, after the cruise operator reported an narrower-than-expected fiscal first-quarter loss but also said it expected the collapse ... Shares of cruise ship company Carnival Corp. (CCL 1.88%) sank by 10.6% in January, according to data provided by S&P Global Market Intelligence. Other cruise and travel stocks performed comparably during most of the month. However, Carnival stock dropped more than its peers later in the month, signaling something specific to the company. It's hard to see Carnival, already seen as an entry-level cruise line, raising its prices to grow earnings dramatically.

Carnival Management

That compares with 54% occupancy during the same period in 2021. Despite governments relaxation of pandemic-era protocols in both the U.S. and, more recently, Canada, the company is projecting fourth-quarter bookings below 2019 levels — at lower prices. The stock still trades at a fraction of its pre-pandemic share price despite revenue recovering fully. Investors should avoid buying shares now; those who own stock may even consider locking in profits.

Should you invest $1,000 in Carnival Corp. right now?

I'm concerned about how Carnival will fare in a potential recessionary scenario, which could happen unpredictably. Volatility profiles based on trailing-three-year calculations of the standard deviation of service investment returns. The company is unlikely to resume paying dividends for the foreseeable future. Its primary focus is on shoring up its balance sheet following the pandemic.

Founded in 1993, The Motley Fool is a financial services company dedicated to making the world smarter, happier, and richer. Before the pandemic, Carnival was a very profitable company. The company reported $3 billion of adjusted net income in 2019, which matched its previous record high in 2018. The cruise company had a strong track record of earnings growth before the pandemic.

The original growth strategy included a festive atmosphere, features and amenities unlike any other cruise line at the time. Slow to start, the growth strategy shifted into overdrive in 1980 when Carnival shocked the world by building its own ship. The Tropicale became an iconic name in the cruising industry and sparked a wave of shipbuilding that is still underway. Carnival reported adjusted net losses of $770 million, or 65 cents per share, on $4.3 billion in revenue. Operating costs and expenses totaled $3.4 billion during the quarter, compared with costs of $1.6 billion in the third quarter 2021.

Carnival Co. & MarketRank™ Stock Analysis

If both of these things can continue throughout the next year and beyond, I'd feel good if I were a shareholder planning to hold for the long term. Additionally, geopolitical turmoil in the Red Sea is forcing Carnival and other cruise lines to reroute cruises that were scheduled to pass through there. For Carnival, this meant rerouting 12 ships, which is more than some of its rivals. Unfortunately, there's a real cost to doing this -- management expects this will reduce its adjusted earnings per share (EPS) by $0.07 to $0.08 for the quarter. The company expects to use the net proceeds from the Notes Offering, together with cash on hand, to redeem its 500 million euros 7.625% senior unsecured notes due 2026.

Why Carnival Corp. Stock Sank by Almost 11% in January

The industry had gotten back on a growth trajectory in 2023, with Carnival reporting all-time highs in bookings and customer deposits in the year's second quarter. Micky Arison chairs both Carnival boards, while Arnold W. Donald is the chief executive officer (CEO). For investing purposes, Carnival is grouped with the consumer cyclical (consumer discretionary) sector, operating within the hotels, restaurants and leisure industry. The company's direct competitors include Royal Caribbean Group (RCL), Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. (NCLH), and Lindblad Expeditions Holdings Inc. (LIND).

The stock closed at a new 52-week low of $7.03, below its pandemic plunge lows of April 2020, when shares traded around $7.80 intraday. Carnival stock plunged at the end of September after the company issued another disappointing earnings report and the stock sank to 30-year lows. Hopes for a recovery in the cruise industry lifted the stock. Now that the company has bounced back and looks to be on solid footing, I'm sure it's starting to catch the attention of investors. Warren Buffett, who many consider the greatest investor ever, once said that he believes the mark of a wonderful business is one that can raise prices with minimal pushback from customers.

There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase, a SQL command or malformed data.

And when it gave its update about the Red Sea, the company clarified things even further by saying that it's almost fully booked for its cruises in the first half of this year. The Motley Fool Stock Advisor analyst team just identified what they believe are the 10 best stocks for investors to buy now… and Carnival Corp. wasn’t one of them. The 10 stocks that made the cut could produce monster returns in the coming years. Carnival said bookings improved 15 percentage points from the prior quarter to 84%.

You need to take a few steps before buying shares in Carnival (or any other stock). Here's a step-by-step guide to adding the cruise stock to your portfolio. Carnival (CCL 1.88%) is the largest cruise line in the world. The company operates nine cruise line brands with over 90 ships visiting more than 700 ports annually. Carnival Cruise Line was launched in 1972 with one second-hand ship and a tank of fuel. The first port of call was San Juan, Puerto Rico, but soon more were added.

Best Mexican Riviera Cruises 2023 & 2024 Celebrity Cruises

mexican riveria cruise

You’ll find colorful colonial architecture in many of the towns along the Mexican Riviera. Mazatlán’s Old Town is a maze of flower-filled plazas and delightful 19th-century buildings, many now serving as restaurants and galleries. In Puerto Vallarta, admire the Zona Romantica and the church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, its steeple topped with a filigree crown.

Sea of Cortez

Mexican cuisine is one of the most beloved in the world, and arguably one of the best aspects of cruising to Mexico is sampling fresh, local food. 5-night cruises are not offered as often as 3, 4, and 7-night cruises, but they can be found periodically throughout the year. ATV tours are popular along the Mexican Riviera, allowing visitors to experience the countryside around ports by off-roading through vineyards, canyons, and deserts. These town squares are the perfect place to watch and observe local culture and lifestyle. While some are more touristy than others, relaxing in a shady plaza can help break up a busy port day in Mexico. The Mexican Riviera refers to cities and towns situated on the western coast of Mexico known for picturesque oceanfront resorts and tourist attractions.

Mexican Riviera excursions

Choose from a wide range of accommodations including Spa Suites and Oceanview staterooms. Plus, our Family Suites are a hop, skip and jump away from Splash Academy, our amazing youth area for kids. Personalize your cruise experience once you’re on the ship with our free mobile-friendly tool. Plan your daily activities, browse and purchase shore excursions, view restaurant menus, make dining reservations, check your account balance and more. The panoramic view takes center stage in The Crow's Nest at the top of the ship, where you can relax just about any time of day and enjoy your favorite drink. A casual, modern marketplace, Lido Market offers the widest range of food options on board for breakfast, lunch, dinner and a late-night snack.

Luxury Cruises to the Mexican Riviera

Finally, Mexico has four different time zones, so cruisers should expect time changes between various ports of call while sailing. This can be different than ship time, so best to plan carefully when doing independent shore excursions and be aware of onboard time. It's best to set your watch to match the ship's time to avoid any potential confusion.

Our Princess fleet includes ships that offer a multitude of amenities and feature the innovative MedallionClass® experience. From a balcony stateroom, take in the sights and sounds of the colorful cultures ashore before enjoying the “sabor” of local cuisine in one of our many eateries during your Mexican Riviera cruise. Sail to the destination of your dreams from the departure port that works best for you. Similar to a traditional all inclusive vacation, food and entertainment on board is included in your cruise fare.

DON’T LET THE MEXICAN RIVIERA SAIL AWAY

Don’t forget to enjoy your meal with a cold glass of an agua fresca, a fresh fruit juice found all around the country. Whale watching on Mexico’s Pacific coast is best from mid-December through late March/early April, when whales make their way south from Alaska and the Arctic. The most common whales you’ll spot in Mexico are humpback and gray whales. While blue whales, sperm whales, orcas, and fin whales pass through the area on their migration route, they are much rarer to spot. You’ll want to visit the Zona Romántica (Romantic Zone) in Puerto Vallarta, a historic, waterfront old town neighborhood that is home to boutique shops, bars, restaurants, homes, and condos. Cabo San Lucas is a tender port, so be sure to collect your tender ticket early so you can disembark and get the most out of your time in port.

Night Mexican Riviera - Los AngelesDetails

The Mexican Riviera is one of the best destinations in the world to spot these magnificent mammals. In fact, the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California) has been called the “World’s Aquarium” due to the abundance of diverse sea life calling the area home. Sip, savor and sway to the music with onboard activities that give you a taste of Mexican tradition. Sample tequila while learning about the drink’s history from a local expert, and indulge your taste buds with tacos and fajitas. Or let loose with your loved ones during a mariachi performance, and dance to the lively tune of violins and guitars.

If watching wet T-shirt contests and doing beer bongs aren't priorities, then you might want to look for calmer, more family-friendly ways -- like snorkeling or kayaking -- to spend your time. Mexican Riviera cruises start on the West Coast from Los Angeles or Long Beach, as well as San Diego and San Francisco. Some small or expedition lines, like Windstar and Lindblad Expeditions, will depart from ports in Mexico such as Puerto Vallarta or La Paz.

Mexican Riviera Cruise Lines

Americans with Mexican Riviera cruises beginning and ending in the same U.S. port (Los Angeles, for example) do not need a passport. If your cruise starts or ends in a Mexican port, you'll definitely need a passport; having one is highly recommended for everyone in case travel plans change. Mexico has thousands of miles of Pacific coast, stretching from its northwestern border with California to its southern border with Guatemala.

Lounge by the shimmering pool, or sample the cocktail menu in the gorgeous Sunset Bar, overlooking the ship’s wake. On Solstice-series ships, bask on the grass of the Lawn Club on the upper deck, and cool off with delicious gelato from Café al Bacio. Elevate your experience in The Retreat, offering all-suite accommodation, an elegant private lounge, and dining at the exclusive Luminae at The Retreat.

You’ll often find competitive prices on a cruise to the Riviera, especially when considering the cost of flying to Mexico yourself and staying in a resort for a week. The winter months will likely encounter nice beach weather while in port, but you’ll want to pack a few long sleeve shirts and jackets during this time of year for sea days. Navigator of the Seas is the Royal Caribbean ship offering year-round cruises to the Mexican Riviera from the Port of Los Angeles. As a recently amplified Voyager Class cruise ship, Navigator of the Seas boasts plenty of amenities, restaurants, lounges, and onboard activities to keep cruisers busy. A weeklong cruise to the Mexican Riviera allows ample time to travel to several ports further south along Mexico’s Pacific coast, allowing for more diversity in terms of scenery, culture, and activities.

Cruising to Ensenada offers plenty of activities to choose from, including wine tastings, shopping at local markets, enjoying fresh cuisine, and visiting the second largest blowhole in the world. Once a quiet fishing village, Puerto Vallarta has grown exponentially to be among the busiest resort towns in Mexico. More lush and hilly than other Mexican Riviera cruise ports, Puerto Vallarta offers the perfect blend of calm beaches and hip city streets. That’s because we invented Freestyle Dining in 2000, a revolutionary concept of no fixed dining times or pre-assigned seating and more dining choices than any other cruise line.

Over A Dozen Cruise Robotaxis Get Stuck In Dystopian Traffic Jam In Austin

cruise austin traffic jam

Cruise had provided training to Austin firefighters on how to get inside the Chevy Bolt and drive the vehicle. But a Cruise employee, speaking to an Austin firefighter remotely, refused to grant them permission. The employee said they couldn't verify the uniformed firefighters were actually firefighters and not civilians.

Self-driving taxis cause massive traffic jam in Texas.

Moreover, the dearth of viable north-south routes through the city and an unplanned detour from an alternative route resulted in several robotaxis converging on the same beleaguered thoroughfare. Cruise’s efforts to manually reroute the vehicles proved too slow, exacerbating the traffic jam. However, once alerted to the situation, Cruise promptly took control and autonomously guided all their electric vehicles out of the congested area. Cruise is far from the only autonomous car company testing in Austin.

Work starts on bullet train rail line from Sin City …

The region, which has been a testbed of self-driving technology, is currently being used by Waymo and Volkswagen to test its vehicles. All three council members expressed concerns related to public safety, complaints from the community and the city’s inability to regulate the vehicles. ““We think it’s the right thing to do during a period when we need to be extra vigilant when it comes to risk, relentlessly focused on safety, & taking steps to rebuild public trust,” the company said. Concerns over the vehicles driving recklessly through downtown were raised after videos on social media showed cars stopping in the middle of traffic and swerving into bike lanes. AUSTIN, Texas — Austin is now looking into regulating driverless vehicles on city streets. The city says it has no record of anyone being hurt by an autonomous vehicle in Austin.

MSC Cruises

Last month, approximately 10 vehicles locked traffic on Vallejo Street in San Francisco. The most famous incident of Cruise vehicles randomly gathered together occurred in July last year when over a dozen prototypes stopped near an intersection, also in San Francisco. On Thursday evening, the company said it was proactively pausing driverless operations across its other locations. Cruise, which has been offering driverless rideshare in Austin since last year, also offers rideshare services in Houston and Phoenix, and previously San Francisco. On the evening of Saturday, Sept. 30, firefighters responded to a Cruise vehicle stopped in the road and blocking traffic. The screen in the vehicle said a crash had occurred, according to an incident report.

Earlier this month, the department issued a memo noting that "Texas cities cannot regulate autonomous vehicles" as their authority is preempted by state law. The permit suspension only impacted the company’s ability to operate fully autonomously. Many have claimed there will be less traffic and less driving because fewer people will own cars. Also, if we are not the one having to drive, we can do things like watch live sports or Netflix or whatever and are more willing to accept growing traffic. I have a hard time determining what is better — there are pros and cons to the robotaxis of 2023, and there are pros and cons to the broader vision of a widespread robotaxi revolution. AUSTIN (KXAN) — On a busy Saturday night near the University of Texas at Austin campus, a UT student caught a unique traffic jam on camera — at least 20 Cruise driverless cars at San Gabriel and 23rd streets.

The California DMV accused Cruise of not disclosing or showing full footage of the incident, including its pullover maneuver, according to the USAToday report. Other reported incidents depict time-consuming responses to unusual situations. Cruise vehicles will no longer be on Austin streets – at least for now. Our expanded ODD will help to reduce concentration of vehicles and provide more services to the places customers want to be.

They acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the congestion and laid out their plans to expand the Operational Design Domain (ODD) to reduce vehicle density in high-demand areas and enhance service quality. The city was also previously being used by Ford and Argo AI to test self-driving technology including rideshare and delivery services, before Argo AI shut down last year. The California-based company, which is a subsidiary of General Motors, announced the change Thursday evening in a post on X, formerly Twitter. The announcement came just two days after the company paused services in California after the California Department of Motor Vehicles suspended the company’s testing and deployment permits. "The industry's going to have to do a lot more diligence to get us to a place where these vehicles can safely operate," said Council Member Zo Qadri, whose downtown district has been a hot spot for Cruise complaints.

Even though Cruise is voluntarily taking driverless vehicles off Austin's streets, the halt is only temporary. Austin officials said residents complained about the cars not operating properly. The company’s suspension follows the launch of a federal investigation into incidents with pedestrians in San Francisco. This is not the first time that Cruise vehicles have caused a traffic jam like this.

The department has since reached out to equivalent bodies in Phoenix, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington D.C. A host of autonomous prototypes deployed by Cruise in Austin, Texas have been captured on film stuck in the middle of a street in what looks like some kind of twisted, dystopian traffic jam. Friday morning, a Cruise spokesperson confirmed rideshare was paused in Austin. The Cruise app also read "We've temporarily paused our service," with an option to be notified once it restarted. So firefighters couldn't roll the vehicle out of the intersection. Cruise emphasized the decision to suspend AV operations "isn't related to any new on-road incidents."

He pointed to Cruise's tendency to avoid larger streets, special events, higher volume traffic and inclement weather. City data showed more pedestrians and cyclists were killed or seriously injured in crashes in 2022 than in any other recorded year, as they launched "Vision Zero" in an effort to reduce the number of people hurt or killed in crashes. Austin's mayor pro tem, Paige Ellis, called the issue a matter of "public trust."

This isn't the first time that Cruise vehicles have drawn the ire of untrusting residents. Back in January, a driverless car was observed turning into a bike lane. And during another incident, cars were observed treating small residential neighborhoods as throughways. While legal, it caused an unnecessary nuisance to residents who told KXAN that they'd seen as many as 25 cars in a 20-minute span. In essence, while the recent Austin traffic snarl involving Cruise’s robotaxis was a minor hiccup for some commuters, it underscores the complexities of integrating autonomous vehicles into bustling urban landscapes.

Residents in Austin, Texas are fed up with Cruise-induced traffic jams—just like Californians. Despite these challenges, companies like Cruise have made remarkable strides in expanding their fleets beyond their Silicon Valley origins, with Austin, Texas, being one of their recent ventures. However, this expansion has not been without its teething problems, as evidenced by the recent traffic snarl in Austin. The DMV’s dispute with the company relates to an Oct. 2 hit and run incident, after which the DMV accused Cruise of withholding information about. Qadri, along with Council Members Paige Ellis and Vanessa Fuentes, received a briefing on self-driving vehicle activity Friday afternoon during the committee meeting.

The bill also set minimum safety standards for self-driving cars operating in Texas. The legislation, Senate Bill 2205, was celebrated by General Motors at the time. In 2017, the Texas Legislature passed a law preventing local officials from making their own rules like requiring companies to register or pay fees. But first responders were increasingly alarmed at the behavior of the driverless vehicles, records obtained under the Texas Public Information Act show. "We do have a lot of interest in Austin," Rachel Castignoli, a city official monitoring autonomous vehicle companies, said of competing firms. Cruise has also been the subject of a federal probe from the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration examining if the self-driving vehicles are using appropriate precautions around pedestrians.

"It is very alarming with how close the [Cruise] vehicles are getting," a firefighter wrote on Sept. 2. "The Cruise vehicle's actions are not predictable and there is no mutual communication with them." Austin's first responders grappled with how to manage Cruise's robot cars and their "alarming" behavior, records obtained by KUT show. Learn about The Texas Tribune’s policies, including our partnership with The Trust Project to increase transparency in news. But I think having a conversation with our state, you know, counterparts is extremely important for me, for them to kind of raise the alarm bells on this. And I think it’s extremely important for constituents,” said Qadri.

Qadri is working with fellow council members to address the issues in the Austin Mobility Committee next month. One of many recent posts that caught the attention of Austin City Council Member Zo Qadri. “From a pedestrian in West Campus, they’re not great to interact with. But I mean, I’m sure at some point, the technology will get there,” said Prada. We fully recognize the inconvenience, and we’ve taken proactive measures to relieve the crowding in the area.

The pedestrian was then launched in front of an autonomous Cruise vehicle which braked but still collided with the pedestrian, and then pulled over after stopping, dragging the pedestrian forward about 20 feet. As of Wednesday, the Austin Transportation and Public Works Department had received 42 complaints about Cruise vehicles since July. None of those incidents have resulted in injury, the department said. Unfortunately, more and more Cruise robotaxis flooded the narrow Austin street to meet the peak demand, only to join in the traffic jam. Cruise states that at the time, there were limited routes going north and south through the city, and a detour from an alternative route led the EVs to the same doomed parkway.

Unveiling the Secrets: Do Dentists Hold Doctorates in Medicine?

Dentists, on the other hand, typically earn a doctor of dental surgery (DDS) or a doctor of dental medicine (DMD) degree.
